Thank you, Kirk, for making this video.
Happy VESAK!!!!
For anyone who does not know the following description of Vesak may be found on beliefnet.com,
“Vesak, or Visakha (pronounced way-sak), is a celebration that commemorates the Buddha's birth, enlightenment, and death, and his passing into nirvana. It is named for the month of May and is celebrated on the full moon, when the Buddha's mother is said to have given birth to him in a garden in the Himalayan foothills while en route to her parents' home. According to most Buddhist calendars, he would be 2,548 years old this month.”
For me, Vesak is a time when I reaffirm my practice of buddhism and to contemplate my life.
My greatest challenge is to live each day in service to all mankind and to do no harm. This is a daily struggle for me.
It is my belief that all the love you put into the universe returns love to you and the same is true of strife and hatred. If this is what you put out into the universe, this is what is returned to you.
This year is particularly hard for me as I have just suffered what I see as great harm perpetrated upon me by someone who I have never even met. They must have known that their actions would cause myself and my family tremendous pain but they appear to have given this about as much thought as one would wiping a piece of used chewing gum from the bottom of their shoe.
When something like this happens and there is no repentance – no apology – it is sometimes very hard to forgive.
After all, I am only a human being and far from perfect. So today I vow to try extra diligently to remember that this person must have a lot of pain in their life to so callously visit pain on other human beings and I will try extra hard to forgive.
